In an address to the nation King Albert announced he is abdicating the Belgian Throne in favour of his son Prince Philippe, Duke of Brabant.

The Act of Abdication will be signed on the 21st of July 2013 Belgium’s National Day.

New Commander of the Household Division

Major-General Edward Alexander Smyth-Osbourne CBE has been appointed Major-General Commanding the Household Division and General Officer Commanding the London District.

Maj-Gen Osbourne will be in charge of all army units within London and be based at Horse Guards.

Maj-Gen Osbourne succeeds Major-General Sir George Pemberton Ross Norton KCVO CBE who is taking on the role of Deputy Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployment Corps.

The Emir of Qatar will Abdicate Tomorrow

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani Emir of Qatar has confirmed he is abdicating the Qatari Throne in favour of his son Crown Prince Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Sheikh Hamad will address the nation of Qatar at 08.00 local time (05.00 GMT) tomorrow morning. Tomorrow the 25th June 2013 will also be a national holiday in Qatar to mark the abdication.

Queen’s Horse wins the Gold Cup

The Queen’s horse “Estimate” has won the gold cup at Royal Ascot today the four year old filly ridden by Ryan Moore and trained Sir Michael Stoute beat “Simenon” to the post becoming the first horse owned by a reigning monarch to win the Gold Cup. The Queen’s son The Duke of York presented her with the Gold Cup. The Queen has had a total of 22 winners at Royal Ascot.
