Queen Honours Former Lord Chamberlain

Her Majesty the Queen invested The Right Honourable The Earl Peel GCVO PC DL with the Royal Victorian Chain for his service as Lord Chamberlain of the Household. 

The Royal Victorian Chain is a personal award from the monarch there are currently only 9 living recipients following the recent passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Former Lord Chamberlain made a Permanent Lord in Waiting

Her Majesty the Queen has appointed The Rt Hon. The Earl Peel GCVO PC DL to the position of Permanent Lord in Waiting to Her Majesty the Queen.

A Lord in Waiting is someone who helps the Sovereign with various duties a notably one being meeting visiting foreign heads of state as they arrived into the UK.

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021)

Today Her Majesty announced the passing of her beloved husband His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who passed away peacefully in the morning at Windsor Castle, aged ninety nine.

The Government has announced that all official flags, including the Union Flag, are to be flown half-masted on all UK government buildings until 8am on the day following His Royal Highness’s funeral.

In light of the ongoing situation with Covid-19, the Royal Household has asked that people not gather at Royal Residences and lay floral tributes.

Tomorrow Saturday, 10th April at midday, a Gun Salute will be fired at locations across the United Kingdom and Gibraltar and onboard Her Majesty’s Ships (HMS). The Gun Salutes will be broadcast online and on television, members of the public are encouraged to watch from home because of Covid-19.

Prince Philip’s titles Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich now pass to his eldest son HRH The Prince of Wales.

HRH The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh is survived by his wife, Her Majesty The Queen.

His four children: HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Princess Royal, HRH The Duke of York and HRH The Earl of Wessex and Forfar.

Queen appoints new Lord Chamberlain

Her Majesty the Queen has appointed The Right Honourable The Lord Parker of Minsmere KCB to succeed The Right Honourable The Earl Peel GCVO PC DL as Lord Chamberlain of the Household. Lord Peel retires on 31st March 2021 and Lord Parker of Minsmere will take up his appointment on 1st April 2021.

The Lord Chamberlain of the Household heads the Lord Chamberlain's Office and is a part-time position, the day to day running of the Lord Chamberlain's Office is done by the Comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain's Office.

Lord Parker of Minsmere's career background is in the British Security Service with nearly 40 years service culminating in becoming Director General of MI5, a role which he retired from in 2020.

Master August Philip Hawke Brooksbank (Born 9th February 2021) son of Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank and Mr Jack Brooksbank

August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born on the 9th February 2021 at 8:55am, weighing 8lbs 1oz at The Portland Hospital,Westminster. Mr Jack Brooksbank was present at the birth.

This is Her Royal Highnesses and Mr Brooksbank’s first child, as well as the first grandchild for HRH The Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York. August is the ninth great-grandchild for Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. August is currently 11th in the line of succession to the thrones of the Commonwealth realms.
