New Great-Grandson of the late King Michael of Romaina

Mr Nicholas Medforth-Mills and Mrs Alina-Maria Medforth-Mills have had a second child. A baby boy named Michael, born 15th April 2022. Baby Michael's arrival was announced on Instagram. Nicholas and Alina-Maria married in 2017, they had their first child Maria Alexandra in 2020.

Mr Nicholas Medforth-Mills is the eldest child of Her Royal Highness Princess Elena of Romania and Mr Robin Medforth-Mills, and the maternal grandson of King Michael I and Queen Anne of Romania (nee Bourbon-Parma).

In 2007 King Michael signed the Fundamental Rules of the Royal Family of Romania which outlined the succession of the Romanian royal family. Under the previous rules of succession which followed Salic Law (males only), the headship and claim to the Romanian throne would have passed to the Head of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, from which the Romanian royal family descend.

The Fundamental rules allow females in the Line of succession, making Nicholas's mother Princess Elena second in line to Headship of the royal house. Nicholas became third in line and was to be made a Prince of Romania upon his 25th birthday.

Then in 2015, King Michael stripped HRH Prince Nicholas of Romania of his HRH and princely styling and excluded him from the line of succession. This was likely done after Prince Nicholas had an illegitimate daughter named Anna Iris with his ex-girlfriend Nicoleta Cirjan.
